The first week of August is almost here and all you motorcycle lovers know what that means. The famous Sturgis rally is on its way. The little town of Sturgis South Dakota is in the preparation process for the most eventful time of the year. This once small rally was originated in 1938, by the “Jackpine Gypsies”.

The Sturgis rally brings up to 700,000 people to the little ghost town every first week of August. Many of them are families who travel in their R.V.’s and bring their cycles along to enjoy the whole week of fun. The main focus of these rallies is to show off your bike by joining races and performing stunts or simply showing off the custom body and paint. This week is all about the pride and respect you have for your bike.
One attraction the Black Hills offers to the cyclists, while they are in Sturgis, is the Black Hills Run. This is a very scenic route that starts in Deadwood South Dakota and takes you to Custer State Park. As you are on the run, make sure you stop and visit the western town Deadwood. Most definitely this town has a unique history.

Deadwood’s history is definitely as you have seen on all those old western movies. This little town rose from the ground illegally. The thought is that it was built on Native American territory because the treaty of Laramie had given the ownership of the Black Hills to the Lakota people.

During the year of 1874, the Black Hills Gold Rush began. It was announced when Colonel George Armstrong Custer was leading an expedition into the hills and found gold in a French creek. The announcement of gold brought five thousand people to Deadwood South Dakota which led to booming business of gambling and prostitution.

Now as you cruise the main street on your motorcycle, you will notice the history of the town was brought back to life. There is legal gambling and the buildings have been restored to look like the originals. This is definitely a hot spot for Sturgis rally visitors.
